Adding memory to the Acer Aspire One
Adding memory to the Acer Aspire One.
In the past the addition of memory to the Acer had been one of removing the shell and inserting memory into a slot on the mother board. Today’s newer ver is quite a lot more simple and takes about 15 min (after you order the memory).
The memory in my unit was a 1 gig stick of Pc2-5200, less than stellar performance but enough to surf the web. Some research showed it possible to hold a 2 gig stick of 667 DDR 2. I opted for Crucial 2GB 256Mx64PC2-5300.
The installation couldn’t have been simpler:
- Flip the unit over to review the memory cover
- Remove the 2 screws securing the door
- Remove the old memory (push out on the 2 retainer pins)
- Slide in the new memory in reverse order of the removal
- Install the memory door
And there you have it the memory is now installed. After this, reboot the netbook and after login in right click the “my computer” icon and select “properties” from the pop up. At the bottom of the pop up will be the memory size you just added…in my case 1.99 gig
Good luck. Next item for this netbook is a windows 7 installation.
